The so-called Tucker Commission to review higher education in Louisiana may expand after some college officials expressed concerns about being left out. Last week, Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed only LSU and Southern University members. But Jindal said Monday that he and House Speaker Jim Tucker are working on adding two commissioners from the state’s University of Louisiana System and the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, whose officials were not included initially. They would likely be added as nonvoting, ex-officio members, Jindal said, noting the details are still being finalized. Jindal’s two appointees to the Postsecondary Education Review Commission — created from Tucker’s legislation — were LSU Board of Supervisors Chairman-elect Blake Chatelain and Southern Board of Supervisors Chairman Tony Clayton, rather than independent parties. That left the eight-college UL System and the LCTCS wondering why they had no direct representation on the commission that could shape the future of higher education delivery in Louisiana.
